A survey by Cimigo NetCitizens indicated that up to 70% of Vietnamese people interviewed said that they use internet for chatting.
The survey was released at a conference on digital technology by the Ministry of Information and Communications on December 3 in Hanoi.
According to the survey, 95% of Vietnamese people use internet to get their news; 92% use it for searching for information; 78% for listening to music; 72% for research and 70% for chatting.
Around 47% read online news daily, 32% read news via internet at least once a week, 7% at least once a month and 8% said they do not read online news frequently.
The former Minister of Information and Communications, Le Doan Hop, said by the end of this year Vietnam had 31 million internet users with 70% of them being under 35 years old.
In the first quarter of this year, Vietnam ranked 18th among the top 20 countries in the world, 8th in Asia and 3rd in Southeast Asia in terms of Internet users. Since 2010, Vietnam has been listed among the top 20 countries with the highest numbers of Internet users.
To date, Vietnam has 62 online newspapers and magazines, more than 300 online press agencies and 1,024 generalised information websites. Up to 227 social networks have been registered to operate in Vietnam, attracting a large number of participants
